Face to face, Mixed mode or Online
You can change between face to face, mixed-mode or online study as long as the unit offers your preferred study attendance mode. Changes can be made until the second week of semester through MyInfo. If you are unable to access self-enrolment, you can request the change via MyAnswers.
To change your study mode after week two, contact your unit coordinator for approval.
Full-time or part-time
If you are not studying on a student visa your course may allow you to change between full-time and part-time study. Some courses require you to be enrolled full time, while other courses may only be available part time due to unit availability and pre-requisite requirements.
If you have been awarded a scholarship by Murdoch University, that may affect your study load requirements.
You can change your unit enrolments through MyInfo. You can reduce your study load to a minimum of one unit (three credit points) per semester. Make sure you consider the options and possible consequences if you are thinking of withdrawing from a unit.
Reducing your study load to less than a full-time load may affect your Centrelink or Transperth benefits. It is at the discretion of Centrelink/Transperth and any other third party agencies to allow benefits on enrolments less than 12 points.
Enrolling in more than a full-time study load is considered overloading.
Student visa holders
If you are studying in Australia on a student visa you are required to study full time. You may be able to reduce your study load under special circumstances as outlined in Part D Standard 9 of the ESOS National Code:
- you have studied units during other teaching periods, such as winter or summer units
- you are in your final semester of study and need less than 12 credit points to graduate
- you cannot enrol in 12 points due to course restrictions such as unit availability or advanced standing
- you have an intervention strategy in place
- on compelling and compassionate grounds where you can provide evidence of serious personal issues.
Reduced study load will not be approved:
- for homesickness or culture shock
- for financial reasons or to reduce fee payments
- in the case of pregnancy unless there are medical issues associated with the pregnancy.
Apply for reduced study load
Applications open when the previous teaching period’s final grades are released. Applications must be submitted before the end of Week 2. Late applications may be denied.
Your application will take up to two weeks to be processed. Requests for additional information and the approval will be sent to your student email (the address nominated in MyInfo). Some applications may require a meeting with a Student Success Specialist.
