When you attend your graduation ceremony you are required to wear the correct Murdoch University academic regalia.
You will need to wear your regalia correctly to represent the award you are receiving. For awards not named, regalia is trimmed in the colour of the field of study.
Bachelor
Put on the gown as you would a jacket, with your arms straight through to the end. Do not put your arms through the slits in the sleeves.
The Bachelor hood is trimmed with coloured satin, representing your field of study. Place the hood over your head, affixing it to the Velcro on the shoulders of your gown. The back of the hood is folded to the right.
Your Mortarboard is worn with the larger peak to the back of your head and it should sit flat. The tassel is black and worn to the left.
Honours
Put on the gown as you would a jacket, with your arms straight through to the end. Do not put your arms through the slits in the sleeves.
The Honours hood is trimmed with coloured satin, representing your field of study. Place the hood over your head, affixing it to the Velcro on the shoulders of your gown. The back of the hood is folded to the left.
Your Mortarboard is worn with the larger peak to the back of your head and it should sit flat. The tassel is black and worn to the left.
Graduate Certificate / Diploma
Put on the gown as you would a jacket, with your arms straight through to the end. Do not put your arms through the slits in the sleeves.
The Sash is trimmed at the end with coloured satin, representing your field of study. Place the sash around your neck and draped down each side of the gown opening.
Your Mortarboard is worn with the larger peak to the back of your head and it should sit flat. The tassel is black and worn to the left.
Masters
Put on the gown as you would a jacket, with your arms straight through to the end. Do not put your arms through the slits in the sleeves.
The Masters hood is lined with coloured satin, representing your field of study. Place the hood over your head, affixing it to the Velcro on the shoulders of your gown. The back of the hood drapes centrally down the back.
Your Mortarboard is worn with the larger peak to the back of your head and it should sit flat. The tassel is gold and worn to the left.
PhD
Put on the gown as you would a jacket, with your arms straight through to the end. Do not put your arms through the slits in the sleeves. Your gown has coloured trim down each side of gown opening and inside the sleeve.
The PhD hood is lined with coloured satin, representing your field of study. Place the hood over your head, affixing it to the Velcro on the shoulders of your gown. The back of the hood drapes centrally down the back.
Your Tudor bonnet should sit flat on your head. The tassel is black and worn to the left.
